Whatsapp permanently on mute

So, I used to keep the whatsapp app on mute and turn on the sound when needed, but after the most recent att that changed the sidebar I can't turn it on anymore, apparently.
This thingy doesn't help. I can leave it on or off and restart the brower. It doesn't matter. So if anyone has some insight, it would be very helpful.Side note: also what's up with these square icons? I don't know if it is only my preference but I think it is much uglier than what used to be.

@leocg On Opera Gx
On a regular tab and in other browsers whatsapp web is working fine as always, no problems there.
Also, I just found out that the 3 dots in the right are actually clickable, but I have to put the edge of the mouse exactly on one of the white dots and then I can unmute, if I click anywhere else the app window closes. Then I guess the problem changed. Is it meant to be that way, or could it be effect of a mod or something?
