I get, that Opera promotes itself as having this decent ad blocker built in. But when it comes to real world pages, it looks like this:
      Opera Momentaufnahme_2024-11-16_200904_www.spiegel.de.png
As you see, although the ad blocker is enabled this certain website spiegel.de has so many ads coming through it, it really doesn't matter.

And there's no change if I turn off "allow acceptable ads". I get this one then:
      Opera Momentaufnahme_2024-11-16_201204_www.spiegel.de.png

I call this really disappointing. I know I can load an add on like UBO, but why do I get so much promotional stuff with the native ad blocker turned on? It's what I would expect when I didn't use an ad blocker at all.

@HealingCross316 For me, the adblocker is good enough. It may not block all the ads, what is impossible by way, but it blocks around 90% of them

And we should remember that if site authors were smart enough, it would be very difficult for adblockers to do their job.

If you look in uBlock Origin's settings, you can see the adblock lists it uses. For example, under "Multipurpose", it has "Peter Lowe’s Ad and tracking server list" that points to https://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/serverlist.php?hostformat=hosts&showintro=1&mimetype=plaintext. You can save that list, go into Opera's adblocking settings and add that file as a custom list.

@burnout426 Fine. Thank you. It’s great to have this kind of customization.

@leocg You‘re right. Although DER SPIEGEL is one of the most popular quality news pages, it’s very (!) heavy on advertising. So rhey‘ve found multiple ways to circumvent ad blockers.
