text and pictures are small and scrunched in the middle of the screen

This problem happens primarily with Facebook and CNN:
When I open Facebook, the text and pictures are small and scrunched in the middle of the screen, no matter how I set the text size. When I Zoom in, I have to scroll sideways in both directions, to even see the whole page. What can I do to correct this?
