Having difficult in installing Opera 36

Hello all. I'm new to opera. My neighbor runs an old windows XP laptop he doesn't want to transition away from. He wanted a lightweight browser and discovered Opera 36 seemed like an ideal candidate. However when we go to install it we get an error "The installer has encountered a problem and has to close"
Any idea what could be causing this issue?
Thanks in advance. Happy to answer any questions to help facilitate a solution.

While disconnected from the next, run the Opera 36 installer on your computer, click "options", set "install path" to a folder named "Opera 36" on your desktop, set "install for" to "standalone installation", uncheck "import bookmarks and data from default browser" and install. Then, close that Opera.
Then, in the "Opera 36" folder on your desktop, go into the version folder and delete opera_autoupdate.exe.
None of that will make any changes to your computer. It'll just put all the program files in the folder. Then, copy that folder to WinXP and try to run launcher.exe in it to see if it runs. If so, you can create a shortcut to that launcher.exe and pin it to the taskbar and or put it on the desktop.
Opera 36 is old and so is WinXP. So, not all sites will load and work right.

As for the reason for the error, my guess is that WinXP isn't fully updated and doesn't have the right Windows Installer service version. But, that's just a guess.
