Downloaded files repeat downloading instead of opening

Using Opera on a desktop with Windows 10. After downloading a file, when I click to open it from downloads it just downloads the file again (or creates a duplicate in downloads). Even when attempting to open a file previously downloaded and saved in another folder, it will not open the file from the folder but creates a duplicate file in downloads.

@allayed What happens if you open the file from Windows Explorer?

On you system, it sounds like the file type you're downloading is incorrectly associated with Opera instead of the program that should be handling the file.
