Upon my third attempt to install 103.0.4928.16 from 101.0.4853.58 it works. No idea why this time. No editing of the file structures needed. I had intended to edit them as suggested, but it wasn't necessary. My guess is that the corruption is workable, this time for some reason.

Started PC windows 10 today, opened opera with around 30 tabs saved and they were also saved by session buddy extension. Everything was gone including tiles for speed dial and extensions. What went wrong and is there a way to recover anything? some links saved in session buddy were important to a book I'm writing.

Just added https://www.reddit.com/r/operabrowser/wiki/opera/new_profile_layout/ to show what files and folders go where for advanced users that want to do the profile layout migration themselves.

ok, I already know.
You need to uninstall Opera keeping your settings and download version e.g. 95 or 101 and install

Greetings,
I sat down to my PC yesterday morning to find Opera had completely reset. All of my preferences, bookmarks, plug-ins, etc. were gone. I tried to log into my opera account. I wasn't able. I tried to reset my password. I was sent to an invalid link. I submitted a bug report and checked the forums. I decided to give it time. This morning, I was able to reset my password. I log in intending to synch. I checked that my data was available. It was. I tried to synch. My synch data disappeared. Years... years of data. Bookmarks collected and organized over the course of years. This was a simple browser. I chose it for its unobtrusive UI. That's become more intrusive over the years. Recently, there have been numerous issues I've encountered. From this colossal pain in my bum to the annoying splash screen playing every time I open Opera (resolved after only a week). At any rate, I'm sure there's someone out there, or maybe there's already a thread, explaining why this happened and how to remedy it. I'm not terribly interested. I want to read the news, check certain accounts, and go on with my day. I'm tired of the bugs. I'm not willing to troubleshoot this issue when starting over entirely can be done on any browser that doesn't seem to be sinking into a frenzy of sweeping changes that don't enhance my experience. Arc wasn't even on my radar until Opera seemed to start making moves in order to directly compete. I was here for simple and easy to use. That's no longer what this browser offers.
I sat down to ask for help but realized my time with Opera is done after the 1st paragraph. Best of luck. I hope everyone else is able to avoid the loss of their synch data after Opera decides to reset without warning or any user input.

This situation just got bizarre.
I had given up on trying to restore opera. I just started fresh. Started adding bookmarks, extensions, etc.
Everything was working fine. Then today I was browsing and when a new tab tried to open I received a message that opera was out of memory. I don't know if this was legit or not. I closed the tab and then exited. Then I ran ccleaner.
When I reopened opera it did not go back to what it had been today. Instead it reverted to where it was prior to everything being reset.
All of the tabs that had been open, all bookmarks, all extensions. And all history was there ending at the time and date that the problem occurred. None of the history between then and now was present. It's as though I closed opera that day and never reopened it until now. And like between then and now had been using an entirely different browser that is now gone from my computer.
Also, when the new old browser appeared the open tab showing that opera had been updated to version 103.0.4928.26.

Opera's latest version is: 103.0.4928.34--has anyone tried it yet? Is it safe with respect to (wrt) migration data loss, or not?

Okay, I tried 103.0.4928.34 on one computer (Win 10/64) and it seemed to work okay, so far. I will report back, after installing it on the other one computer (also Win 10/64, FWIW, but different machine).

Okay, both computers' Opera was updated to version 103.0.4928.34 without migration corruption, so far.

Hello everyone and thanks for reading.
I use Opera as my primary browser because I enjoy its features but today... I have the habit, which I should stop, of keeping 20 tab. Each time I reboot, I may recover the tabs but today I have restarted the computer Opera has been updated to a very large color with something called Aria... But yes, the tabs, sesions, paswords, history... all disappeared. Can I do anything to get it back?
Thank you -

After a 3-week vacation, I returned and started up my PC, and my Opera browser had been completely replaced with a brand-new and totally sterile version that has none of my bookmarks, passwords, history, etc. A system restore to an earlier date did not change the new Opera back to "my" version. I want my old version back with all my personalizations.

@leocg Can you advise if this Reddit post is correct?
https://www.reddit.com/r/operabrowser/wiki/opera/new_profile_layout/ about the proper layout file structure for Opera/chromium now? There is a reference to it in the thread which you suggested, in which Opera actually responds to this issue. -

Hello,
I was all fired up to post and complain about a problem, but now I'm telling people how I fixed it.My opera updated from version 63.something to 103.something and my speed dial, history and open tabs all vanished. I was bewildered and livid. I stopped using Opera for a couple weeks while trying to sort it out. I don't use any extensions, it wasn't an issue with my antivirus, and my computer didn't crash. I also don't have Sync set up and still don't because I am perhaps a little paranoid about what it would sync and such. Anyway, what I did (when I couldn't find an answer from Google, and that's part of why I'm writing this) was some of the steps here. Specifically this.
In case those links ever change, I went to opera://about and confirmed both
The Profile folder:
(C:\Users{your user name}\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Default)And the Cache folder:
(C:\Users{your user name}\AppData\Local\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Default).you can go to command prompt and type the following separately to open each folder:
%AppData%\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Default
%AppData%\Local\Opera Software\Opera Stable\DefaultFrom there I renamed both "Default" folders to "Default.old1" because for some reason one of them already had a Default.old. I opened Opera and I had all of my unorganized crap (30+ open tabs), back, some of my history (not super important) and my speed dial.
Let's just ignore that I don't remember what I was doing with most of the tabs.

That says it all. Both times, I have had to manually re-create all my saved passwords, shortcuts, etc., etc. It is starting to tick me off. And it won't save my wallpaper. Windows 11 Home 23H2.
It's an update problem. WTH????

Just same thing happened to me too. I didn't update the app, I was going to, later, I has 2 windows open and one incognito window, total of 40 or 50 tabs, I opened an incognito tab again and suddenly windows showed the option to end process, I didn't click end but it automatically closed. When I reopened, it opened as if it was a fresh install but Ctrl+shift+t opened tabs from a day ago, since then I had opened and closed a lot of tabs but it was all gone, and it had completely cleared the other window. Even the key combination didn't bring them back, though they were open from days back. I expected the incognito tabs to be vanished but not a normal window.
This is the 2nd time it has happened, first time when I was new to opera and had no idea how to get the tabs back. This is so annoying and terrible because opera was known for being lighter and more stable than others, but this is unbearable. I need the tabs back. Or I might just shift to firefox
