      I got today a warning about available security update for my Opera browser. Actual data of my browser is:

      Versión:95.0.4635.84
      Opera está actualizado (is updated)
      Fuente de actualización:Stable
      Sistema:Windows 7 64-bit
      Versión de Chromium:109.0.5414.120

      Now, when I click the link to update and I download the 64bit version, the application doesn't run when used.

      It's some kind of bug?

            @vergessen2022 ,

            It is an Operating System Requirement Update, this morning Opera Staff just Discontinued all updates to the OSes of Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 entirely, that is what that update mentions, and there is no way of getting rid of it, Opera's Staff may require you not to use this browser when this message happen, some people could not use it earlier when they had to deal with this "Get latest security update" message.

              @chaojeffrey Good. I've blocked the update task so I stop getting the annoying "red alert" and will keep using the browser for now.

              Thanks all.

                  @vergessen2022 Hello, would you please explain how to block the update task? The "red alert" is annoying indeed.

                  Thank you in advance!

                    All,

                    Here ya go:

                    https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2023/01/opera-windows-7-8/

                    I highly recommend updating your OS to Windows 10 then upgrading Opera. Windows 10 is free and currently supported by Microsoft.

                    The temporary solution offered in this forum (i.e., blocking Opera's updates via host file) is not recommended.

                    Please share.

                    Cheers 🙂

                        @raddy,

                        Great! Now Windows 7, 8.1 users have two choices. Updating to Windows 10 is your best bet. Obviously, for security reasons.

                        Cheers 🙂

                          Win7 is still being updated. So the best bet is installing ff for windows 7 users (for security reasons).

                            I was referring to Windows OS, not Opera. Windows 7 and 8.1 users will no longer receive security updates (as of January 10, 2023).

                            Cheers 🙂

                              Windows 7 Embedded/Windows 2008 R2 updates suitables for normal windows 7 + still have 0patch platform.

                                @generosus ,

                                Well also we have to contend that Microsoft is also pushing people to Windows 11, I know Opera already is looking to Develop hard into Windows 11 and soon to be Windows 12,

                                https://www.microsoft.com/insidetrack/blog/unpacking-microsofts-speedy-upgrade-to-windows-11/

                                And by the time many get off of Windows 7, they will have to upgrade again shortly after 10, and it will forced on.
