I just switched to Vivaldi. Seems to be as reliable as Opera once was, but it's also highly customizable.
I'll be staying on it until further notice.

I came here for this issue that I've been having for months and I found out that multiple people have been having it since 2023 and nothing has been done about it. It's 2024 now and I'm still having Opera crash when moving tabs in the same window or to a different window. It's not about any specific site either, it happens at any moment with any tab. Most of the time I can move them, but every now and then it crashes. Just tonight it happened 3 times. Sad to see what this browser has become now...

This bug seems to have just been fixed with the rollout of the latest version of Opera.

I was just recording a video of the bug occuring on Opera 111.0.5168.25, but the browser just updated to version 111.0.5168.43. Now i can no longer reconstruct the bug. The tabs seem to respond way faster now, too, and drag & drop of tabs doesn't cause the browser to stutter any longer.

My method of reconstructing the error in 111.0.5168.25 was:
Open a new instance of Opera (e.g. private surfing mode).
Open a few Opera tabs with different sites, just so they load content from other websites.
Open new, empty tabs and move them in the bar, until the crash occures.

@SebastianSchulz I have a later version and it's still crashing for me, just like everyone here has been subscribing. I hope yours is still continuing without issues. 🙂

@DeborahNicholson Hello, yes, since the update i never had any Opera One crashes again. Currently running on version 112.0.5197.39 and as of writing this answer the borwser seems to have another update ready (112.0.5197.53).

@SebastianSchulz I have the latest update and mine crashes. however, I discovered if I drag a tab to the left side of the plus sign in the tab bar, Opera doesn't crash. It only crashes for me if I drag a tab to the right side of the plus sign. Hopefully, this may help others who are struggling with this bug. Have a great day, Sebastian and thanks for your reply.

@DeborahNicholson I see, when i take your desciption and pull a tab to the right side of the plus, for the first time in a new browser session, the Opera One browser freezes for a split second, even on the newest version, acting like he runs into a memory leak. I've also seen spikes in RAM usage at that moment, but since my system is already running other applications i can't definately say that those are caused by Opera One itself.

2025 and still having this issue on Opera One latest version
It happens way too often, half the time if not more I try to move a tab from one window to another Opera will crash, it's almost certain it will crash whenever I try to.
