I would appreciate if I could disable that animation what happens when switching workspaces. It looks cool. I can understand that. But I'm leaning toward lesser UI animations

Honestly, the sleekness of the animations was one of the things that I really appreciated and got me interested; I thought - if the team put this much effort and attention into this tiny thing, imagine what will they achieve over time.

I would hate to lose the animation, but I could understand having a knob to toggle it on/off eventually.

@abstractalgo The animations are pretty, but it's super distracting if you have really bad ADHD.

Each time I switched workspaces - when trying to reference some text for a piece I was working - my brain kept forgetting what I was trying to do because the visual distraction of the animations was too much. I feel like I'm less productive since installing OperaOneDev yesterday.

I would really love to know how to disable it - the difference is such a strong impact that it might be the one thing that'll force me to switch back to regular Opera.

Please give an option to disable animations. Not only is wasting time, it's also annoying and irritating. Please tell us if there is a configuration flag that we can toggle.

@namero999 I've found a workaround (using the Aria ai function in Opera One:-).
Search for the 'hardware acceleartion' in advanced settings and turn it off. Upon restarting Opera, thos annoying animations are gone. I don't know what else this option does, so probably there is some minor performance loss, but for the time being this can help.

@wouterve It's not working for me on Mac M1. Is there any other way to disable it? It's super annoying.

@bandiit 100% percent this, it's nice but animations (pretty much any kind) do not belong to purely functional software like internet browser. They're nice in certain websites, like portfolios and that's pretty much it.
No other software (or webpages) designed for actual work has any animations - for good reasons. They are distracting and waste your time.
And workspaces has word "work" right there! 🙂

@wouterve Thank you so much! I'm still getting a slower move between workspaces but at least I'm not feeling seasick now!

It looks like there is now a formal option to disable the animation feature under Settings > Advanced > User Interface > Disable Animations. I'm not sure how recently this was added, but I just thought I'd update this thread.

                        opera://settings/?search=reduce+animations

@franan Thank you. I've used that option now, and it didn't actually stop the animation when changing between workspaces, so I've had to go back to disabling Hardware Acceleration. It was worth a try though.

@franan said in [Request]Option to disable Animation when switching workspaces:

                                opera://settings/?search=reduce+animations

Unfortunately, there's no setting like this in non-GX opera.

Still, I don't want to disable hw acceleration but definitely want to disable ALL animations in opera.

How do I disable them in an easy and comfortable way?

@hellsfire No, that's what hardware acceleration is for. Disabling it to turn off annoying animations is a workaround, not a solution.

Anyway, I've just updated to version 101.0.4843.25 and official option called Reduce animations has been added.

@avgariat But it only reduces them. I still get the vertical shutter effect when I switch workspaces, unless I turn hardware acceleration off.

Just thanks - Opera forced the update. But a older one without Reduce animation option. So I was searching for that solution about an hour. Thanks alot for the Thread opener and Devs who listen.

Switching just work areas without that animation is so nice!

For the ones who can not find the Reduce Animations option in settings, just update your browser using Update & Recovery option from the menu.
