      Hi!

I recently upgraded from Opera 12ish to 25. I fell as if some features disappeared, and I'm wondering if someone can tell me how to get them back.

In my old version I could use ctrl + 1,2,3... to open the corresponding website from the speed dial. Now I can't do that anymore. Also, Opera doesn't save passwords anymore or offer tab-stacking (which I loved).

This seems like a rather general issue, so I was surprised that I didn't find any mention of it elsewhere on the forum (or the internet in general). Can anyone tell me more about this?

      Thanks in advance!

      G3rty

        Ctrl 1, 2, 3 doesn't work in Opera 25.

Opera 25 does save passwords. It has a reasonable password manager. Play with it a bit, and then you can make up your mindi if you need more. For my purposes, it seems generally adequate. There are Password manager extensions.

As for tab stacking, Opera 25 doesn't do it.

Read the forum a bit more, they started from scratch after v12.17 since they couldn't use a new web engine with the old UI and the old engine was too much trouble to maintain.

Your only option to get back the features is to stick with v12.17 for as long as you can and hope something better comes along.

I can recommend the firefox extension tab utilities which has tab stacking similar to the old opera(and a ton of nice customization options) or you can have faith that otter browser will blossom into something good since their goal is to bring back many of the old opera features.

I like the Chrome Extension, tab bundler. You might find it useful for some of your needs (though it's not the same as tab stacking), and the nice thing about it, is you can save what you have bundled, so that if you close the browser and open it later, it's still there.

            Here's a discussion of it. http://www.learnwithnirab.com/2012/07/use-bundler-to-create-user-defined-tabs.html

To download a Chrome extension easily, you do need the Opera extension, called Download Chrome Extension, https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en

            or Extension Source Viewer, https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/extension-source-viewer/

              About the Password management:
I really liked how the "wand" used to work.

I for instance have a few pages with about 5 to 20 login users and passwords. The issue is, all of them are the same and switch just by the last digit.
With the wand it was extremely easy to select with what account I want to login.
              ctrl+enter - select from list (using keyboard 😉 ) - enter
              thats all
Now I have to type every account before the manager even recognizes by luck the correct one. This is extremely tedious if you have to this every couple minutes.

              About the tabstacking,
ohh how I miss this. Especially cause it was just native to the browser and just worked flawlessly even if you were working from outside the side panel (<- miss that too)

Thanks for the responses! I guess I didn't check the forum thoroughly enough. Sigh... what happened to the Opera I knew and loved?

I guess I'm going back to v12, hoping that future Operas will bring the old features back (roger on the extensions, but I'd rather have it all in one place, even if I sacrifice some compatibility to newer web features).

The password manager does not work with HTTP server authentication; Bug DNA-7933. And Chromium has this bug, too.

Now the problem is figuring out just how to get that utility (downloaded from firefox to my laptop) installed. Any suggestions?

                    Thanks!

You can't use it in opera if that's what you're asking, my recommendation was to switch to firefox with that extension installed.
