30+ "Opera Helper (Renderer)"s opening everytime I open GX and exessive cpu usage by main GX process

Recently Opera GX has become unusable because everytime I open up GX it absolutely destroys my cpu. If I open up activity monitor it shows atleast 30+ "Opera Helper (Renderer)"s. Even worse, I have not been able see the main GX process dip below 85% cpu usage. I have tried all of the usual solutions like force quit and restart everything and fresh reinstall several times each. I know that this is something to do with GX because I spent 4 hours scanning the computer for viruses with norton 360 and making sure this was specific to GX and not any other browser.
Is there a known solution for this? I am on Monterey version 12.4. I have a dual core intel i5. Help would be appreciated. -
