How to disable autoscroll?

The problem is that while using opera to read web based ebooks published as posts autoscroll and text selection activate randomly and without warning.

Text selection is not a problem as tapping copy causes it to disappear with only the paste buffer affected

Autoscroll on the other hand...
It is very difficult to read a paragraph that has just raced off the top of the screen and until autoscroll decides to deactivate it is impossible to scroll up to the text being read.

The obvious solution is to stop using Opera. However I have been using Opera for 22+ years and don't want to switch. That said if autoscroll cannot be disabled my favorite web reader is not fit for the primary purpose I use it for.

I do know that putting a case on the phone can cause touchscreen problems. However disabling autoscroll or using a browser that does not have this feature activated is the lesser evil.

Opera for Android 71.3, auto update enabled.
