Opera GX Browser Sounds not working 2022

I have my headphones on, my volume mixer for opera all the way up, all browser sounds toggled on, and no browser sound at all, YouTube videos work and have sound.
I just reset my whole pc and started from scratch so i installed opera gx and followed the prompt it gives when downloading for the first time and even in the prompt it tells you to test out the browser sounds and it wasn't working then either.
Before resetting my pc I had Opera GX and the browser sounds worked. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!

Even though everything is fresh, try in a test standalone installation. Do browser sounds work there?

Actually, they're messed-up for me too in Opera GX 88.0.4412.65 64-bit on Windows 11 Version 21H2 (Build 22000.739).
Even though the volume on my laptop is at 100%, Opera GX's volume is at 100% (and not muted), Opera GX's browser sounds main volume is set to 100, and all of the individual sounds are set to 200, I can barely hear them with my default laptop speakers. Youtube videos play fine and are loud. Other browsers and other apps are fine too.
With my headphones plugged in though, Opera GX sounds sound loud like they should, even at the default browser sound levels.. I've also confirmed that when my headphones are not plugged in, the correct default audio device is set for my laptop speakers.
I also restarted my computer for good measure. No change.
Edit: I don't know if I'm experiencing the same thing as you though. I checked in Opera GX 87 and 81 and they're both quiet without my headphones. Mine might be a Windows issue or it's just always been like that for me and I just never noticed.

Hi, i have the same problem, no sound on browser but youtube and twitch works. Also, no sound on shortcups as Messenger, Instagram or Spotify. And spotify has the same bug than the windows app when the sound engine crash : no sound (ofc) and when you clic on the timer of the music, the music stop and can't restart. So maybe it's a problem between Opéra GX and the windows sound engine

@aseides so I was having the same issue and didn't know what I was doing wrong. But after much looking I found that I'd turned off Opera's hardware acceleration. Evidently with hardware acceleration off, all browser sounds and shaders will cease to function. Check if your's is on and see if that fixes the issue. Hope this helps!

@lu-k I have this same issue. It happens from time to time and breaks everything with sound. I can't use spotify, windows media player, youtube nothing. And if I click to the audio icon on bottom right corner it does not pop up. It fixes itself after a couple of minutes after icon shows a red cross sign, I right click it and run a solve audio problems and it says one or more audio services isn't running then it fixes it. Usually a restart fixes it too. But still this is an extremely annoying bug and I'm 100% sure it's caused by Opera GX since it only occurs when I'm watching a video and rewind it 5 seconds with left arrow key. This issue only triggers itself inside Opera GX and affects everything on my pc.

I know most people probably either solved this problem by doing this strategy, or it does not work at all. But just in case. You want to make sure that you've went into the quick settings menu which is located on the right side of your screen, and then toggled Browser Sounds slider to be set on and not off..

Yeah idk in 2023 I have the exact same problem, I already have all my mod keyboard sound effects on and they are maxed out. Even without mods the sounds don't work while youtube and other applications do work. I'm not quite sure what to do.

Actually very easy. Just go settings, then browser, then go all the way down to system and find "Use hardware acceleration when available" if its off just open and relaunch, if already open click relaunch. I'm not sure if we have the same problem but I just did that and everything went back to normal

@bruhthegoat It actually worked. I had to turn it off and on and it just started working, bg music, keyboard sounds and all. I didn't have this issue on my Windows 10 laptop but I did when I used this Mac, idk if that has anything to do with the problem. Tysm!

Hi, I am going through the same thing as Aseides was. I just recently wiped my pc and can't hear browser sounds. I did what you guys recomended, that being turning off "Use hardware acceleration when available" and relaunching the app but it still has not been fixed. Can anyone help?
