Hidden tabs in some workspaces

I'm using workspaces. I don't need all my workspaces. I selected a workspace I hadn't used recently. I got a window that showed only one tab, showing the start page. I clicked the little red button that closes the window. I got a popup that warned me that I was closing a window with 9 tabs.
I tried restarting Opera, restarting the Mac, shutting down the Mac for a minute, and even starting in safe mode. I didn't reset settings to default because I don't know how to "do a backup and export [my] passwords," nor did I do the subsequent steps.
I want to see those hidden tabs so I know what I'm closing.

@marty39 I dissolved the issue by disabling workspaces. All my lost tabs immediately appeared in the currently open window. That was far too many tabs for one window, so I had to move most of the tabs to other windows. But the issue is only dissolved, not solved or resolved.
I would like to be able to use the workspaces feature, but when I reenable workspaces I get the old workspace setup back, with tabs hidden in some of the workspaces. Evidently my workspace setup is corrupted. I would like to reset my workspaces (to where it was when I first enabled workspaces) but I don't know how.
