My messenger sidebar shows me that I have a notification but I have read all of them. So when I'm browsing I don't know if somebody texted me or if it is just the bug.

Same for me - the red dot is always there, even when all the messages are read. I though for a second that it was because there is a message in the 'Other' folder but it's not the issue.
            Looking forward to the fix.

Same here, it gets fixed on its own after an hour or two, but it's annoying and basically make the indicator useless for that time

                  Hello,

I think i've found why that's doing that and how to remove it. Go on Messenger on your phone app, go on Call and Stories Tab if you have notification (the red dot) on them. That'll remove immediately the notification on your browser.

That seems to be the issue. The sidebar messenger see call and stories notifications even it doesn't display them.

                    Hi, @ervael and other readers

I'm currently on version 92.0.4561.43, and your fix doesn't work.

I had a red dot in the mobile app at calls, but that was from over a month ago and in stories. But the red dot wasn't there earlier today. Well, technically, it was, but when I had an unread message, I saw it and replied to it, and it was gone. Now when I open opera and reply to newer messages on the phone, it shows a red dot in the sidebar, it took a second to realize that message was read and even responded to, but the dot is still there.
I can open the messages, reload the messenger, restart the opera, and it's still there for hours.

Sometimes it is gone by itself, sometimes only after an opera update.

Edit: I'm now on version 92.0.4561.61, and it didn't fix itself after an update.

Still happening with Version:94.0.4606.38. Red dot is always there. Even when all messages and stories have been read. There is no message request, no spam, nothing, but the red dot doesn't go away. That's driving me nuts. 😰

Issue with notification icon is still present in 99.0.4788.75. Please fix this.

I've had this issue for a while now, and it's still present in Opera 112 – new message notification badge on the Opera Messenger icon despite everything being read and no new notification badges on the phone or web app. It shows a new message even if I've logged out, and keeps showing it after I re-log back in.

The WhatsApp messenger works all right, only the Facebook messenger has this problem.

If it can help, I first fixed this issue by logging out, clearing cookies, cache and everything that I could find.

Issue came back quite fast, and I noticed that some chat are still considered as unread if you do not click on the textbox of it.
So if I see I have the icon even if I have no new conversations, I click in the textbox of all recent conversation, or even write in it to be sure, and it works.

Not sure if I'm the only one, but if I turn off the messenger notifications (right click messenger->sidebar settings->Allow notifications for messengers) and turn them on again, the notification is gone until the next session of opera, where it's bugged again. Temporary fix, but it works for me. Or you can just turn off notifications, but some people (including me) wouldnt want that.
