How to recover a previous session in Opera GX

I've already seen some of the previous posts about this but wanted to be extra certain about a few things before potentially deleting everything by mistake.
In my case I had 3 windows open with one of them having over 100 tabs opened with some of them going as far back as early January and late december. While going through and closing un-needed tabs on that 100+ tab window I accidentally pressed the "close all other tabs" buttton. Since there were so many tabs that had been closed the option of simply opening previously closed tabs didn't work as it only allows you to open the past 20 or so tabs.
I had found a previous post on here about a similar issue. One key difference in my case is that I didn't lose the tabs as a result of a crash and I have not closed Opera Gx yet. I was able to find where my session folder is but the files are not labeled as "current session" "current tabs" "last session" "last tabs". I'm assuming the last session and tabs files are the ones highlighted from when I closed Opera earlier this morning around 7 am.
So now I'm wondering what do I do from here. The previous post I found talked about renaming the copied last session files so I don't know if I have to rename these files something else or if renaming isn't something that has to be done anymore. I will save the last session and tabs files to a separate folder for now until I get some instructions/advice.
My wild guess is that I have to close opera gx, delete all of the files in the session folder, paste in the 7 am files, then re open opera and hope for the best?

That's the basic idea, yes. But, in this case, I would copy the 7am files to a safe place before closing Opera GX too, just in case they get removed if Opera creates a newer set when it closes that causes that 7am set to be deleted.
I would also make copies of the copies to use for restoration so that you still have the original 7am copies to try things again or a difference way.
Before you do that though, you can make a standalone installation of Opera GX, delete everything in its sessions folder (while it's closed), and copy the 7am files over to it. Then, you can start that Opera GX and test if things will even working without closing and interfering with your regular Opera GX.

On a side, for future reference, you can use Session Buddy to back up your opened tabs so that you can restore them if needed. Just note that this extension has no knowledge of Opera's workspaces. It just saves all opened tabs from all workspaces and restores them into the current workspace.
Another way to back up your opened tabs is to right-click on a tab, goto "save" and choose "all tabs as a speed dial folder". Then, if you have to, you can right-click on the speed dial folder and choose "open all in tabs". The save option is limited to tabs in the current workspace. If you use more than one workspace in Opera, you'll have to repeat for the others.

Thanks, I'll try installing Opera GX on my laptop and move the files over to there to test it and be extra safe about it. Will update if everything works out.
I have used session buddy before back when I used Chrome but didn't know that it could work with Opera. Will definitely try to see if I can get it working because it was a godsend for me on Chrome.

I ran a test on the laptop version and it worked there and it also worked here on my desktop so I was able to get everything back. Thanks for confirming my hunch and giving me a way to test stuff like this out.

Hi, I've also been dealing with the shame issue, same thing basically. I've copied the previous session's files to my desktop, deleted the current one (or was current one) and pasted the older one. Opera keeps on creating a new session instead of using the one I've pasted, any way on how to get it to use my older session, therefore being able to keep all my stuff?

This is probably because the old one is corrupted in some way, which is probably why you ran into this problem in the first place.

I regularly created a new folder for all my tabs and edited the name to indicate the date I did it. It didn't stop something removing all the valuable tabs I had spent hours setting up and although I have done a WIN10 system restore, that didn't get me back to where I was either. This thread is about Opera GX. Is that my problem? If not where have all the tabs files gone. For now I have tried to reset many of them up from all the stuff in the 'Bookmarks' but that doesn't log the ones I created more recently. Can it be amended to that or something similar? -
