Is there any way to close a bookmarks folder that is open with a single click?

Depends what you're talking about.
If you mean the side panel, the whole thing can be closed by clicking on the X top right of it.
If you mean an open bookmark folder tree in the side panel, clicking the arrow beside the name should close it up.

@davehawley Oh yes, the small triangle on the left, near the folder. I 've overseen this very small thing
