We have implemented Cisco Umbrella (https://umbrella.cisco.com/) internet protection services in our corporate environment. Now, Opera autoupdate fails. Opera appears to detect that an update is available and then proceeds to attempting to download the update - this is evident by "Downloading - 0%" or something similar being displayed on opera://update/. However, the download fails immediately. Updating on the open Internet works correctly.

      (a) What are all the URLs & IPs involved in the autoupdate mechanism?
      (b) What protocols & ports are used for autoupdate?
      (c) What could be blocking the download even though Opera detects that an update is available?

      Thanks all for any insight.

Try seeing if you can allow pages on the autoupdate.geo.opera.com domain. Not sure about the port, but I'm guessing it's nothing special and is just 443 for https.

Also, make sure opera_autoupdate.exe has access.

Make sure pages on download.opera.com are allowed.

Same for downloadN.operacdn.com (where N is a number like 3).

If necessary, you can log the connection with https://www.wireshark.org/ when Opera is not running behind Umbrella and see all the places Opera connects.

These URLs now work after allowing them in Umbrella. However, we also needed to disable replacing the certificate for *.operacdn.com with Umbrella's certificate. Updates now work!
