User 1 is using 'Opera' on a PC.
User 2 is using 'Opera GX' on the same PC.

User 1 has their passwords saved on their 'Opera'. Somehow those passwords made it across to 'Opera GX' and are now available to User 2.

How can User 2 remove passwords from 'Opera GX'? (Tried to remove manually, they disappeared, reset the browser and they reappeared - I guess they were synched, so how does one remove the synched passwords? )

What should User 1 do in order to ensure that other operas on the PC are not importing those passwords?

      Can anyone assist?

      Many thanks.

@jackczer User 2 and User 2 have their own username and passwords to access the OS?

When Opera or Opera GX are installed, they may import data from the default browser. So if both are installed for the same user, it may explain why you see the saved passwords on both.

Another possible reason is that Sync is enabled with the same user and password on both Opera and Opera GX.

To remove the passwords, just go to the passwords manager and start deleting them.

@leocg Many thanks for your reply. To clarify, User 1 and User 2 are using the same windows profile.

User 2 removed the passwords manually from 'Opera GX' but they reappeared after a reset of the browser. They appear to be synchronised with User 2's 'Opera GX' online account.

How does User 2 delete passwords from the Opera cloud?

What restrictions should be set in place to prevent exporting passwords from User 1's 'Opera' browser to other browsers?

What settings can be toggled in 'Opera GX' not to ask to import passwords?

In the future, when you launch the Opera installer to install Opera, you can click "options" and choose not to import from the default browser. That will prevent Opera from grabbing passwords from other browsers.

For your situation, it indeed sounds like both Opera and Opera GX are using the same Opera account for Opera Sync. You need to use separate accounts. As in, you should have separate usernames and passwords to log in at https://auth.opera.com/account/login. Then, you need to sign out of Opera Sync on one of the Opera's and sign back into it using the other Opera account. Also, in your sync settings, where you choose what to sync, you can choose to not sync passwords if you want.

@burnout426 Thank you, to further clarify, User 1 and User 2 are using both operas under different email addresses, this is why I was surprised to see that 'Opera GX' grabbed passwords from 'Opera' while each were signed in under different users.

I have access to both email addresses and opera profiles, I just need to know how to manage/delete passwords from User 2's online account and what settings to change so that 'Opera GX' does not grab passwords from 'Opera' going forward.

              Thanks again.

@jackczer Removing the passwords from the list of saved passwords in Opera should also remove them from Sync.
If it doesn't happen, you may need to reset your synced data while logged out from the Sync server, remove the passwords in the passwords manager and then login to Sync again.

Yeah, that shouldn't happen. I don't know how to stop Opera from doing that since Opera has no option for doing that.

The answer is to goto the URL opera://settings/passwords and delete the passwords, which should also sync and remove them from the server for that account. But, as you said, you already tried that.

Thanks for everyone's feedback and assistance.

I think I resolved the issue, by taking the following steps:

                      1. I signed out User 2 from Opera GX.
                      2. I manually deleted all of the passwords.
                      3. I signed into the User 2's online Opera profile and I deleted all of the information.
                      4. I signed into Opera GX under User 2 and I permitted Opera GX to save the login credentials so that a total of 1 passwords were saved, then I synchronised the browser with the online Opera profile and only 1 password appeared. Issue resolved.

Downside: User 2 lost all of their passwords!!

Glad you got it. I'll post the following even though you already have it resolved.

If necessary, you can start over with your Opera profiles and Opera Sync and save as much as possible:

                        • In both Operas, goto the URL opera://settings/passwords, click the 3 vertical dots to the right of "saved passwords" and export your passwords to a csv file. You can then edit each csv file with a text editor to remove any entries you want.

                        • In both Opera, if you need to save your opened tabs, right-click on a tab in the tab bar, goto "save", and choose "all tabs as a speed dial folder". Repeat for any other workspaces you're using in Opera.

                        • In both Operas, goto the URL opera://bookmarks, and use the drop-down at the bottom left to export your bookmarks (it will export the "speed dial" bookmarks folder too).

                        • In both Operas, goto the URL opera://about and take note of "profile" and "cache" paths. Then, close Opera and rename those folders.

                        • In another browser, log into https://www.sync.opera.com/ with each Opera account and choose "reset password" to wipe out all your sync data on the server for each account. (It won't reset your Opera account password or anything like that.)

                        • In both Operas, goto the URL opera://bookmarks and import the bookmarks file you exported earlier. Then, on the start page, right-click on each speed dial folder you created to save your opened tabs and choose "open all in tabs" (making sure you're in the right workspace (that you'll have to recreate first) before doing so if you make use over workspaces.

                        • In both Opera. Goto the URL opera://flags/#PasswordImport, enable the import flag, restart Opera, goto the URL opera://settings/passwords, click the 3 vertical dots to the right of "saved passwords" and choose to import the password csv file you previously exported. If the import flag is not present in opera://flags, goto the URL opera://flags/#temporary-unexpire-flags-m92, enable the flag, and restart Opera. Then, the import flag should show up (for the time being).

Then, you just have to readjust your settings and reinstall your extensions in both Operas.

Then, you can enable sync in both Operas. Make sure you use the right account in each Opera and make sure to only choose the things you actually want to sync.
