      Hello,

Operas cookie options should be better.
      What I need/suggest:

      1. I want to allow some sites to store permanent. I.e. for gmail or some forums.
Thats possible atm, but typing in each url is not convenient. There should be a searchable list of allready stored sites.
      2. All other cookies should be session only, removed when the last tab for the site is closed.
Again, opera wants me to type in urls, some of which idk, because they are in the future.

So I think this is only a matter of the UI, I would love a better handling there.

Aside: trying to count the cookies did not work.

      • open the settings page showing the list of cookies
      • use the search option via menu, type in "cook"
      • the search bar does not show the real number (just 1/29), not all strings "cook" are highlited on the page.
There are even "holes" in the highlited strings, looking line by line downwards, the first few are highlited, then some are not, then after more lines some are highlited.

Entries I want to search for are "Cookie" or "Cookies", but both start with "cook".
Looks like this does not work correctly.

I am using the latest opera version on win 10.
Dont get me wrong, I love opera, used it since ages, prior to chromium engine, it always was the most user friendly and versatile browser.
But this cookie thing could be more useable 🙂

      Thank you.

        @bariton 1 - You mean opera://settings/siteData?

@bariton If you go to a site and click on the padlock in address bar, you can see a list of the cookies and allow/block them from there.

@leocg So the padlock would be for allow.
But how is it possible to remove cookies of an actual tab when the last tab of the site is closed? In settings/cookies one option is "delete cookies if a window is closed". I hardly close opera, just tabs when I dont need them anymore.

@bariton You use the padlock to see the cookies being used/set by the page and you can allow or block them.

I don't think there will be an option to remove cookies from a site without the closure of at least the window.

@leocg Thank you, I will play with the options to see if it works for me.

Hm no, a quick test shows that I cant put "* . * . *" (without the spaces, I need to do that for the forum only) into the "remove when closed" field - invalid website.

So I am basically back to start:
I would prefer all cookies are session only, and a list of sites for permanent storage.

My usage scenario is that my PC is always on, so opera runs forever, thats why closing opera is not the best way for me. So removing the unused cookies when closing a tab would be good, as this marks the end of communicating with a site.

PS: did you try my count the string "cook" thing in settings/siteData in my first post?
Its just about string search on the page, if I search for "e" now and here while typing, I get lots of hits what looks correct. But not on the mentioned page. Dont use Ctrl-F as it sets the focus to cookie search, use the menu top left. What happens at your browser?

@bariton I didn't try and I see no reason to do that. However I decided to try anyway and it correctly listed the sites with cook in its address.

@bariton Did you use the format shown on the dialog, in the field to add the exceptions?

@leocg Thank you for trying that, but this is not what I described in both posts. Its about string search on the page in settings/siteData. I don't want to search for "cook" in an address, that seems useless.

My original aim was to count cookies, so I tried to search the string "cook" on that page.
The funny thing is, that neither searching for "cook" nor "e" seems to work correctly on that specific settings page. The number of occurrences and highlights looks wrong, too less.

Cookie search for "e" in the address does work correctly, but does not give me the number, I just tried that now for testing, but its of no use for my case.

                        Sorry for these complications.

                          @leocg Yes, [* .]test.com does work, but "[* .][* .]test.com" or "[* .][* .]com" do not.

But that does not help me with my suggestion, because idk which site i will use tomorrow, so I can't add an exception for it.
I want to accept all cookies, but session only, removed at tab close, or maybe window close for no real reason.
The exception are sites that I want to store permanent cookies.

@leocg PS: for the purpose of counting the string "cook" at this settings page, I tried Ctrl-A to select all text, paste it into an editor and count the string, but selecting all strings at that page does not work. Uff 🙂

@bariton That search field is for you to search for sites that have set a cookie. So if you want to see Google related cookies, you search for Google.

@bariton Those are incorrect formats, that's why they don't work. The first one is correct, so it works.

@bariton Session only cookies is already the exception, so I guess you can't make it the default behavior.

@bariton Don't forget to suggest it to Google too, so that can change it in Chromium.
