Email clients are much better than online webmal interface. You dont have to open webmail every few mins to know if you get new mail and you get notification about new mails. Also managing mails are better and faster with clients.

Opera Mail is still version 1.0 running at ancient Windows 32bit speed. Will there be an Opera Mail update?

How “shame”? Opera has no obligations to you. Then if users were willing to give at least a single cent for previous Opera Presto, then may be it would have not disappeared.
As some people says, “beggars can't be choosers”, so stop complaining, and face your responsibilities (you and the most of the crowd who always wants to be serviced for $0 and 0 cent).

Any particularly good suggestions for what to use instead of Opera Mail client?
Running Ubuntu, I personally resigned to use Claws Mail, although I don't really like it, as it does not allow to send HTML mail (just to read it, with a plug‑in) and has ergonomic issues. But the other mail clients were too heavy or too buggy. That said, there were some bugs (bugs with filters) with Opera Presto integrated mail client too, but it still was nice.

To jww - There seem to be a lot of people who are frustrated by the choice of email clients available. Here is a link to a review article - the comments are still continuing after a year.

Personally I have used EM Client (good, but free version limited to 2 accounts) and Fossamail (based on Mozilla Thunderbird, from the makers of Pale Moon browser).

Hi, me too. I'm using Opera 12 on my Windows 10 & ElementaryOS. It's so hard to use Opera without email integrated! If I have to do, I'll use Firefox & Thunderbird instead of using New Opera (Chromium-based version) and OperaMail (standalone). I often keep my eyes on each new release of Opera, but it's seem to be that the Opera developer's staff no longer develop the feature.

Integrated mail is so yesterday... a path being taken by Vivaldi and undoubtedly wanted by an exceedingly small group of users (translation: it will never catch on beyond a group less than 1% of the user population). Opera needs to spend its time on innovation rather than returning to a suite of the 90's.
