How do I change the locale of google search from Australia to USA?

Greetings, on my visit to Australia, I decided to install Opera. Now I'm in America, and every time I search google the url changes to google.com.au and it prefers to show me websites in Australia, or the site of it. For example, when I search 'microsoft' I get the austrailian microsoft as the first result instead of the American one. I think this has to do with the search engines being (stupidly) unmodifiable through the interface. If that is the case to fix that, I don't know how to edit the file to change it back to USA (the file extension is .json, if I recall correctly).
