Opera is running on a desktop using
Debian Jessie.

Opera was constructed using
Opera-stable_45.0.2552.888_amd64.deb

How can I open email attachments without downloading them ?

Clicking on an email attachment to open it used to work but that does not work now.

@operaacct Current stable version is 73.

You can't, there isn't a setting to allow automatically opening a downloaded file in a specific program.
