Why is Opera (23.0.1522.75) on my Mac (OS X 10.9.4) running as 32 bit???

My system is entirely (well, 99%) 64 bit:
Macbook Pro, Retina, Mid 2012
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
OS X 10.9.4 “Mavericks”From the Opera Help page:
32-bit or 64-bit? For Mac, the 32-bit build has ceased from Opera 12. We are distributing a Universal Binary containing both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. This means all users on systems that supports 64-bit will use that, or otherwise fallback to 32-bit.But Activity Manager Reports Opera running as 32 bit:
Opera 5.6 MB 72 KB 32 Bit
Opera Helper 56 KB 0 bytes 32 Bit
Opera Helper 0 bytes 0 bytes 32 Bit
Opera Helper 104 KB 0 bytes 32 Bit
Opera Helper 8 KB 0 bytes 32 BitI'm not interested in running a 32 bit browser.
What do I have to do to enable the 64 bit version? Thanks

Ok, nevermind. After digging around, I see that there are TWO versions of "Opera for Mac". v.23 and v.12. WTF??
No mention on the Opera for Mac landing page that what you will download is 32 bit Opera based on GOOGLE CHROME. Again WTF??
If I wanted to run Google Chrome (which I most definitely do NOT want to do), I would just run um.. Google Chrome? WTF??
bye bye Opera -

Apples OS X is based on NeXTSTEP, BSD and Unix, if I wanted to run NeXTSTEP, BSD or Unix, I would run NeXTSTEP, BSD or Unix.
But I see your research has really enlightened you.
Oh well, bye.

Hoping this comment doesn't get lost due to prior replies,
I am running Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 2.53 Ghz core 2 duo 8GB , 1067 Mhz DDR3 mid 2009
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB.Activity monitor, sample, shows
Path: /Volumes/DATA/dgerman/.bin/Opera.app/Contents/MacOS/Opera Load Address: 0x1e000 Identifier: com.operasoftware.Opera Version: 24.0 (24.0.1558.53) Code Type: X86 Parent Process: launchd [222] Date/Time: 2014-09-06 17:47:35.036 -0400 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.9.4 (13E28) file Opera.app/Contents/MacOS/Opera Opera.app/Contents/MacOS/Opera: Mach-O executable i386
So I seem to have only the 32 bit version.
About Opera shows:
Version: 24.0.1558.53 - Opera is up to date Update stream: Stable System: Mac OS X 10.9.4 64-bit
Opera seems to retrieve pages much faster than Safari or Firefox.
I noticed complaints here regarding V.12 .Should I be running V.12?

Should I be running V.12?
No, Stick with the version you currently have. Version 12 and older are based on the old and unsupported Presto engine that will not see any more updates.

The non Presto version (Opera 15+) will get 64 bit support when Opera 25 reaches the stable stream (it is in testing right now)
Why Open the Web?
Despite the connecting purpose of the Web, it is not entirely open to all of its users.
When used correctly, HTML documents can be displayed across platforms and devices.
However, many devices are excluded access to Web content. -

Opera 25 (or 26 at the latest) will be 64-bit only on Mac. See this blog post for details.
