Any news on Opera Link integration?

  • Now that the "new" Opera is finally available for Linux-based operating systems (well, the "developer" version at least...), when are we going to see Opera Link integration?

It's only been a week or two that I have been using the "new" Opera under Ubuntu, but thus far, it's running beautifully... In fact, it's running better than many of the "mainstream" (non beta or developer) versions of Opera have run in the past!

Surely if Opera is running this well (I'm yet to experience a single issue, despite heavy usage), Opera Link integration can't be that far away?

As I've said on Google+ and Twitter - Opera Link is one of the single most important features in Opera's products - everyone else (including Google's Chrome) has this functionality... How much longer must we wait?

  • Hey there,

Synchronization is, at the moment, an experimental features which you can enable at opera://flags/#sync .

It will only sync your Speed Dial entries, Stashes and Search Engines, and it may cause the loss of data -- so creating a backup is highly recommended.

    Regards

  • Well I certainly hope Opera Software "pull their thumb out" and get this working properly - the "new" Opera has been available for some time now, and virtually every other browser has this functionality (in some cases, they've had this functionality for years)!

Because Opera have been dragging their feet with the "new" Opera for Linux-based operating systems, I have been trialing Google's Chrome alongside Opera 12.x (though I am now using the "developer" version of the "new" Opera as my primary browser) and I have to say, it's going to be pretty hard to stick with Opera for much longer if I don't see some work on Opera Link...

I've been using Opera since the very first version was released to the public - I even paid for the browser and WebMail way back when - but a browser is one of the key pieces to most operating systems and I'm not going to wait forever, especially when I'm primarily waiting on something that virtually every other developer already offers!

    Thank you for post.
The same here, ever since Opera has been the first choice. Reading "No warries - your bookmarks are safe" for over a year now (if I remember right), is just not a way, bookmarks and notes are vivid an changing every day. I am working cross three devices and for now, I had to change brwosers. It was simply not bearable any more. I am looking forward to a time, when Opera can be again, used productive in those terms.

  • Completely agree with you mischao105. Been waiting, and waiting for the sync to be fully integrated, meanwhile I'm using other browsers because I don't want to miss out on all my synced passwords, new favorites, history etc.

In all honestly I couldn't care less for many of the new other features in each build, the sync needs to be one of the first things to get in place in this mobile and ever changing world, there's no other way to catch up.

  • I agree with the criticality of the function, the new Opera without basic functionalities is far inferior in usability in comparison to other browsers.
I still use Opera only because I use Opera 12 alongside the new Opera, otherwise I had left like many other old Opera users.
