Bookmarks thumbnail images not showing anymore

I have a problem I'm unable to fix so I'm looking for help here...
(Opera Version:69.0.3686.77)
Depending on the view mode you have selected in "Bookmarks" you can have either large or medium thumbnails showing for the sites you bookmark.
However, for me it is now so that older bookmark thumbnails no longer show up at all. I checked in all my bookmarks folders and it is like this in each of them with no older bookmark thumbnails showing. Instead of the bookmark thumbnails all I get is a color square with the site's name in it.
Amazingly though, bookmark thumbnails for very recently (within the last 1-2 weeks or so) created bookmarks do appear so it's not entirely broken.
This means if I create a bookmark right now its thumbnail will show while the other older ones next to it on the same bookmarks page will not.
I tried to restore an older Opera version but that didn't help.
