Opera isn't Chrome. That's how Opera's bookmarks bar works...

You can easily hide the bar, by just going Alt P (settings) and choose not to show the bookmarks bar. Then get an extension like Chrookmarks for Chrome or Neater Bookmarks, and click on the icon for that Bookmarks Manager when you want to see the bookmarks. That's what I do. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrookmarks-chrome-bookma/kcdheengilgkagjehknnnofigbmlnnfj?hl=en-US
Play around a bit with them both, and decide which you prefer.
To download a Chrome extension easily, you need the Opera extension, called Download Chrome Extension, https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en
or Extension Source Viewer, https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/extension-source-viewer/
