Opera VPN background NetBIOS traffic

  • Opera's VPN tries to send NetBIOS traffic on UDP port 137 by relaying it through the "System" application.

    ( C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe )

On some Windows platforms this triggers constant firewall alerts because NetBIOS traffic outside the LAN is not allowed by default. I have two questions for the developers:

    1. Is it really necessary for the Opera VPN to send NetBIOS traffic?

    2. Is it really necessary for Opera to use the OS kernel as proxy (which makes application control more difficult)

  • Just found same thing, and I didn't allowed opera or it's garbage vpn to collect any data.
