Carlos and eliot are absolute correct and it also leaves files on on my browser since they took the restrict button away. This new version is awful, change it back to the one identical to the firefox extension. Everyone obviously liked it that way.

@montanagrl5 Hi there, thanks for your message!
We are assuming you mean cookies with "files on my browsers". Historically cookies were small files saved on the computer, nowadays they residue in a cookie store, which is a database so there are no more residual files.
Additionally browser add-ons have no way to touch such files. We conclude that you reached an incorrect conclusion here.
We are dedicated to your privacy online and will bring one update at the time more settings to the extension for power users like you.
For any type of questions or concerns, please reach out to support@ghostery.comBest,

@carlos-rss: Precisely my findings as well. I have also used Ghostery for years. Today I switched to uBLock Origin which provides more control as Ghostery 8.12.6 used to.

@opera-comments-bot "This extension may have been corrupted". it says in Opera Browsers
Removed it and reinstalled it but still the same message and tried it in other browsers in the same machine, no problemo, anyone facing the same problem this morning please ? -

@skarimdeus It's an issue with the new version of Opera... It will probably be fixed eventually... In the meantime you can use this workaround:
Enable Developer mode in Extensions
Look for the extension ID in the extension info... Looks like bbkekonodcdmedgffkkbgmnnekbainbg or something similar...
Click on "Load unpacked"
Navigate to where the extension is stored in the profile: C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Next\Default\Extensions[Extension ID]\That will install the current version of the extension in Developer mode, without security checks... The security checks is what is probably broken in the recent version of Opera since it fails to generate hashes in the extension's metadata folder... The extension won't autoupdate, but at least it will work while we wait for the fix...

@eliotcougar Thanks a lot Buddy ! that worked like a charm ! Can't live without this extension since it seems it's the only one that makes YouTube a livable place to navigate.

Do I need to have Operas own Privacy Protection on when using Ghostery, or would it be better to have it off?
-
SKARIMDEUS last edited by
@maltepruser whether it's on or off it's useless especially when using YouTube...because you will be defenceless and you will be invaded with a lot of shitty ads in YT
Ghostery till now is the only extension that does the job perfectly (even uBlock origin was useless against the new algorithm of YT that forces us to watch them shitty ads)
So make sure that Ghostery is always on ... That's the most important thing IMHO

@maltepruser Ghostery is a standalone privacy protection tool and doesn't rely on Opera's Privacy Protection features. The setup remains your decision.
What we advise to do additionally to installing Ghostery is giving permissions to Ghostery extension to block ads and trackers on search engine result pages. This simple guide shows how:

ни фига не работает
Hi there, can you tell us if your situation is similar to the one described here?
https://github.com/ghostery/ghostery-extension/issues/1550
If so, can I ask you to check on your side whether uninstalling and installing the extension helps in this case?Thank you very much!

@eliotcougar said in Ghostery:
After the last update the extension is unusable primarily because the detailed settings are no longer available... There are many sites that don't work if one of the trackers is blocked, and you have to be able to allow only that specific tracker to run on that specific site... Now you cannot allow/block specific trackers on specific sites anymore... I also would like to allow Google's trackers and ads everywhere, but again that is no longer configurable...
Hi there,
the awaited feature for power users offering the ability to block or trust individual trackers is alive in the latest version of Ghostery. Please update! We thought you might want to know.
Best,
Ghostery Team
