A better question would be simply, "why are their so many haters?" The phenomenon is broader than Opera.

They will always exist, however the problem is when one of them or many of them start to be boring and try to convince other they are right.

Figaro is an opera? Ah, maybe; I saw a theatrical version, if I remember correctly.
By the way, I can handle a very basic Italian - learned on TV in my childhood.
Maybe I'll start a language topic - some day when it's got a little more crowdy;) -

Well, there's some famous Russian Opera. Like Boris Godunov. What is it the walrus said: "The time has come,/To talk of many things:/Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--/Of cabbages--and kings." Boris G. gives you the Kings part. I'm not aware of Russian opera though that gives you the "shoes, ships, and sealing wax."
