@aii-s Disable hardware-accelerated video decode by typing this
opera://flags/#disable-accelerated-video-decode
into the address bar and pressing enter. Then you have the possiblity to deactivate it.
It should fix your problem. This fix helped me, but what's the benefit of Hardware-accelerated video decode if lagging like that?
And it will effect on another websites like Vimeo if i kept it disabled?@nvmjustagirl said in Youtube Freezing:
@aii-s most videos on youtube are encoded with VP9/VP8 codec, That means older GPUs can't decode VP8 or VP9 at all.. unless your video card supports it..
This extension will make YouTube stream H.264 videos instead of VP8/VP9 videos.. Extension is called - H264ify - found here
But ya will need to install this chrome extension to Opera 1st called - Install Chrome Extensions - found here
My GPU can decode VP9/VP8, i have GTX 960 it's from Nvidia Maxwell family GM206.
but i will try your extension if i face this issue again.@nvmjustagirl said in Youtube Freezing:
I already tried this but didn't help, thanks for sharing.

It's a bug. Period. Dunno if it is a Chromium issue or an Opera issue. It was introduced in O52 and I have the same problem.
I'm using an Intel i5-7300HQ and an Intel HD630, so old hardware isn't the problem here.
This fix affects all videos ofc, it's not YT specific. -

@aii-s For a while anti-virus softwares & Firewall softwares is now see 'n requests from YouTube and other streaming sites, ect.. so could ya disable n e anti stuff and firewalls.. then go see if that helps...

@nvmjustagirl He already said that the problem was fixed by deactivating hardware-accelerated video decode. It has nothing to do with AV or firewalls.

@ocirnes lol He also said this This fix helped me, but what's the benefit of Hardware-accelerated video decode if lagging like that?
And it will effect on another websites like Vimeo if i kept it disabled?i'm sure he wants to keep Hardware-accelerated video decode... maybe he doesn't like a load on his GPU !
but i guess not you since ya got same problem... just because you gave up doesn't mean he will.. lol -

@nvmjustagirl Ha ha :face_with_stuck-out_tongue: I already discussed this topic with one of the devs. Trust me, the devs need to fix it, nothing the user can do here. With O51 everything is fine. And I can see several complaints regarding HWA issues in the desktop blog, so more than two people are affected. O52 is just buggy as hell.

@ocirnes even tho O51 helped you the thing is he said he has been have 'n trouble for over 6 months with this... n e ways Chill out !.. lol

@nvmjustagirl No, he said "I'm suffering from this issue over like(!!) 6 months".
And now shut up!! -

@aii-s do ya still have this driver installed - GTX 960 2GB (Driver 384.76)..
-
ocirnes last edited by
@nvmjustagirl It has nothing to do with drivers, my sweetheart.
I am using an Intel HD 630 with latest driver installed for HWA, i.e. no NVIDIA. That means it can't be a driver issue, because aii-s uses a different card. -

but issue cause by hardware-accelerated video decode but they need to fix it so i can enable it again in future.@nvmjustagirl said in Youtube Freezing:

@aii-s i've saw that ya un-installed & re-installed opera..
But after talk 'n to sum peeps & browse 'n doesn't look good.. I still can not believe its an opera bug..
coz when i look @ sum of your post looks like ya have
been have 'n troubles for close to a year or so..
but ya said things work good in other browsers - does that include the Chrome browser..
-

when opera does sum new updates i would try portable one 1st ! lol
ya could Test a portable installation, but in another
directory, to test it as a clean install and check if
the problems still happens.. maybe then ya could re-enable Hardware Acceleration.. -
aii-s last edited by
@nvmjustagirl I'll wait couple of updates and see it they fixed the issue with re-enable hardware acceleration

@aii-s Don't know if this will help at all but I had a game that continually froze as well and the cure was that I used CCleaner to clear internet cache and now all is fine. This may work with your problem
