Opera sync issue - all data lost

I just bought a new laptop. Installed Opera and logged into Opera sync. After about 5 minutes I wondered why only one of my bookmark folders showed up - because I had about 30. I checked on my old laptop that was standing next to it - all my bookmark folders were gone, too. And the trash was empty. Then I checked Opera on my Android phone - I saw my folders for an instant, and then one second later they disappeared as well.
In those folders were important links for my masters thesis. I could cry!!
Is there any way to restore them? -

No, they vanished there as well.
I really don't understand it! The only thing I did was logging into Opera sync. And I don't get why one subfolder was for some reason spared from the data loss. There must be a bug of some sort in the sync engine. Because I'm sure I made no mistake...
