A few hours ago I updated Opera to version 21.0.1432.57 like a good boy. Now when I opened it again, all the images in my Speed Dial were missing:

      Alt text

Reloading the Speed Dial does not help. This is not a major problem since I can still see the titles for the Speed Dial buttons, so I can still use them, but not seeing the images on the Speed Dial buttons is annoying. (The titles on the buttons are redacted in the image above.)

What to do, what to do?

Hmmm. Annoying problem. I think in the profile it was thumbnails.db and thumbnails.db -- journal. That sounds like a "bug" in the update, at least for you. Did you save the old profile recently with the two thumbnail files? If so, you could try reinstalling those files.

Personally I don't experience this issue, my Speed Dial is fine after the update.

But it's a known issue for some users. It's being tracked as DNA-19861. (Source)

Please make a backup of your data first.
The workaround is to go back to Opera 20 and wait for the next update when they fix this issue.
Close Opera, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera and delete the 21.xxx folder. Open the 20.xxx folder and rename opera_autoupdate.exe to something else like backup.exe.

Remember to install a new version manually later when it lists the fix in the changelog (by then you can rename the backup back to opera_autoupdate.exe).

Thanks for all the answers. I guess I needed some reassurance that I wasn't completely alone with this problem and that there are solutions to it.

              OK, that's good to know.

some day we'll have to drag colderwinters, even if kicking and screaming 🙂 to a full use of the speed dial.

I had the same issue but was able to fix it by closing Opera and then running it as administrator. Just had to be launched once as administrator and all of my speed dial thumbnails are back.

                        Simply just restarting Opera helps?
                        In my case, it works.
