Now that the Opera 50 web browser hit the streets with its anti-Bitcoin mining feature implemented in the built-in ad blocker, it's time for the development team to focus their efforts on the next major release, Opera 51, which promises a 13% increase in browsing speed due to recent string matching algorithm improvements.
"Since we’ve released our native ad blocking feature, we’re still working to improve it. Last week, we added the anti-Bitcoin mining tool as an included feature with our ad blocker," says Kornelia Mielczarczyk. "With string matching algorithm improvements, our tests have shown up to 13% average performance increase."
The Opera 51.0.2830.0 developer update also adds imported bookmarks to the Bookmarks manager, thus making it a one-stop shop for all your bookmarks actions. Imported bookmarks are now displayed as a single folder along with the exported bookmarks, which are available from the expandable menu.
Now based on Chromium 64.0.3282.15
This developer update for Opera 51 includes a new option (Settings -> Websites -> Flash) that lets you grant access to Adobe's Flash Player plugin on all websites without it requesting for your permission. Of course, this isn't enabled by default, as Opera still requires websites to ask your permission to run Adobe Flash Player.Lastly, it improves support for HiDPI displays and adds support for AppleScript on macOS, allowing users to create snippets for Alfred or automate their workflow. The Opera 51.0.2830.0 developer update is based on Chromium 64.0.3282.15
