Unable to load Opera

Since I upgraded to macOS High Sierra I can't use Opera on my main account. On opening I get:
"Can't open user profile directory, because you lack sufficient privileges. You might want to contact the administrator of this machine."
I tried contacting myself but I was no use, Google as I might I can't figure out what file it can't open. If I create a new Mac user Opera works fine for that user. All other apps and browsers work fine. I've reinstalled etc to no avail.
Grateful for any help

You could install Opera into your user account rather than in system Applications. I spend 99.9% of my time in my standard account, so applications that I added went into that account, and they are working there.
