Retrieving images from cache?

I recently dug out a very old Android (version 2.3.4) tablet of mine that had Opera Mobile version 12.00.ADR-1203051631 installed. In the history are links to pictures that I once had hosted on a now discontinued image sharing site. These links, while inaccessible, do still display thumbnail versions of the pictures beside them.
I have already typed opera:cache into the address bar, and the images in question are not listed, however looking at the cache in the file manager it seems there are many more files than were shown there. These are .tmp files so I do not know if they're the pictures I'm looking for.
Are these pictures still stored on my device, and is there any way to retrieve them? -

If you root the phone or maybe with ADB Drivers, access the history and extract the images should be possible.
Take a look on XDA-Developers or Google.

From Opera itself I don't know if there is an option.
