Pink and green tearing only on YouTube

  • I've recently made the switch to Opera from Safari and I must say I am liking it so far. The only issue I have is these awful pink and green horizontal lines that cover the screen on every YouTube video. I haven't noticed any other platforms that have this problem.

I have tried enabling/disabling Hardware Acceleration in the advanced settings and updating flash. I would really like to continue to use this browser but I use YouTube fairly frequently and this video glitch has made most videos on the platform unplayable.

Let me know if there is any other information that would be helpful.

    Cheers

  • @jaraux Hi, could you provide your macOS details? Also, link to this video would be useful.

  • I am running OS X El Capitan v 10.11.6
The motherboard is the asrock h110m-itx as mac is installed on my ssd and windows on an hdd

The video I screenshotted was just an example. The tearing occurs for every video on YouTube and only with Opera

  • @jaraux You use a Hackintosh, and most likely there is issues with the Graphic Card drivers. I guess you use a GPU from NVIDIA. Check if there is any updates to the NVIDIA for Mac Webdrivers. But, it could be a issue with Chromium.

Try this: Go to opera://flags and enable Override software rendering list and restart and see if the tearing is still there. Also, check opera://gpu/ and post the results for Graphics Feature Status

  • I downloaded and installed the NVidia web driver for Mac OS X version 10.11.6 (15G1010), the version I have installed. Unfortunately it has not changed anything and the tearing still persists. Under NVidia driver manager the web driver is selected over the default graphics driver so it is definitely installed. And just for transparency, yes I do use a Hackintosh.

  • What does the Apple Diagnostics program say about your hardware

  • Apple diagnostics will not open by holding D or 'option D' on startup so I'm not sure I can answer that, maybe it has something to do with the clover bootloader? My specs are:

    Motherboard: asrock h110m-itx a/c
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2047 MB graphics
CPU: 3.7 GHz Intel Core i3 SkyLake

From what I've read these parts are all quite compatible with Mac OS X. The GTX 760 was specifically recommended as a GPU that is compatible with OS X so I am hesitant to accept that the GPU is at fault. The motherboard however is a fairly cheap itx so maybe it is just a driver (or kexts as they're called on mac?) issue.

I may try and upgrade my motherboard and retry Opera at a later date.

  • Hmmmm any chance you could replace the nVidia GPU with an AMD based one just to check
