VPN set to USA, Google presents results in Ukranian

When I use VPN (virtual location: USA), Google defaults to Ukranian and presents results in the Cyrillic alphabet. I've tried a few different virtual location settings, and some work (like Netherlands reverts to google.nl) but for USA (and several other location settings) it reverts to google.com.ua (Ukraine). Any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Hi, we've got this issue on our radar and currently investigating it via bugs.opera.com/browse/DNA-62776.

Hi,
We have a partial solution for this problem: in Opera 50, under 'Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> VPN', 'Bypass VPN for default search engines' should now be selected by default.
This means that at least when using the Google search directly from Opera (using the address bar or the search field on the new tab page) searches are not done via the VPN, and you get the same results as you would without the VPN.
The actual problem can only be solved by Google; Google has an automated algorithm that tries to determine where you're from, and adapts the page accordingly. This algorithm notices that many users specifying some language are using Opera VPN (in this case, Ukrainians), and decides that all people using Opera VPN must be Ukrainians. This is obviously wrong, but cannot be corrected at Opera's end.
The easiest way to fix it if you do want to use VPN while searching (or you have this problem on other Google sites) is to login or change your Google preferences to specify which language / country you want to see.

The problem isn't only with Google. I can not get into any of my financial sites with the VPN on and returning a Ukraine or other outside the US IP. This happens on all of my PC's.

@jcolotti OK, this is not the same thing as the Ukraine problem :). The IP of our VPN has never been in Ukraine or detected as such.
We have recently switched to new VPN servers. New IPs have been assigned to these servers by RIPE. These IPs used to belong to others - and were previously in other locations. There is no dynamic lookup to see where an IP address is from; services that can determine your country from an IP address use a static database to do so. These databases need time to update their location information.
Specifically, the IPs of our US servers (which are physically in the US) are still registered as 'Norway' by some IP location databases. This problem will solve itself, just need to wait for the world to catch up
