+1 for first idea - not to display tabs list and especially previews (optional of course).

No comments for second idea - I have created personal extension to open new tabs always at right and always active; this suits my browsing habits best and I even don't know, how Opera behavior is changed over time.

My solution is going to settings, "Browser" and under "Shortcuts" enabling "Enable advanced keyboard shortcuts", then clicking on "Configure shortcuts" where 2 changes.

          1. Remove the shortcut of ctrl + tab and ctrl + shift + tab for "cycle backward/forward through tabs".
          2. Add that same shortcut to "Switch left/right through tabs" in the "advanced shortcuts" (section at the bottom..."

@donq I actually like the previews! It's a key reason why Opera is my joint No. 1 browser at the moment. It greatly aids in my selecting the right tab when I do Ctrl+Tab+Tab+Tab.. None of the other browsers do it quite right for me.

But I also agree it should be an option, as lots of people don't like this kind of thing.

@makuc9 This did it - Thanks!
I get that they're trying to differentiate Opera but it shouldn't be such an obscure process to set it back to the way it's been done since the dawn of tabs in browsers/applications.

Thanks for that tip. Needed it badly.

I don't hate the previews (frankly I just noticed them - But some Granularity/ Flags to Enable/ Disable each of these - marked in bold would not be hard at all).

What I hate is when I am doing the Ctrl Tab or Ctrl Shft Tab, the popup list (which is also nice), a lot of times ends up Auto Selecting a "Tab" under the Mouse Pointer (my Pointer tends to sit around right side of screen) even though that was not the intent.

i.e. Traps the Selection of the Tab to the Mouse via List instead of a simple Forward <> Backward through tabs.

Some way to "have it not Select the Tab under the Pointer" when doing Ctrl Tab <> forward backward between tabs, would be good.

Just came across this also (similar space) :

@xblissxbliss yes, I have that problem with the mouse too! But overall I like the feature. The previews are useful because I can't always be sure I'm selecting the right page just from looking at the title text.

I'm trying to discipline myself to avoid touching the mouse when I Ctrl+Tab.

In Opera Developer (Opera 67 right now), there's a new tab cycler you can enable via opera://flags/#horizontal-tab-cycler. It's pretty nice.

It appears to do some auto-selecting if the mouse cursor appears over it when it shows, so make sure you move the mouse out of the way before using ctrl + tab.

@blitzkywitzky its very easy, go to settings / then just type keyboard in search box / then wenter configure shortcuts /
once there delete shortcuts for cycle through tabs / add new shortcuts for switch tabs / done.
