i've just installed linux mint, along with opera 12.16[i think?]
the problem i have is when i go into appearances, the box that comes up with the list of all the downloaded skins is to large.
so any changes i make do not take effect as the 'ok' button is off screen.
i've tried dragging the top to try shrink the size but to no avail.
this is very frustrating, can someone please help?
thanks.ps.
also, is there a later up to date opera version for linux available? -

That happens with dialog boxes on many Linux distros when you have a low resolution laptop screen. You should be able to drag the dialog upward so that the top is off screen and the bottom with the OK button is on screen by holding down the Alt key and clicking anywhere in the dialog and dragging.
Sadly, 12.16 is the latest Opera for Linux. Opera has been promising to release a Linux version of the current Blink based Opera for many months but it hasn't happened yet.

thanks for that.
one other thing.
every time i start opera up, i've got a google search box just under the address bar. i got to preferences/search and delete it, but it comes back the next time i start opera.
i even use the 'g' when i created a search at gumtree classifieds which was accepted.
however when i started opera again, the google box was back, and when i looked on preferences, the 'g' had been allocated to google, and gumtree had been given 'b'.
can you help please? -

You should be able to change the dialogue size by changing the dialogue font in preferences — you can in Windows. The Appearance dialogue will be smaller after choosing a smaller font size. Try 10 pixels — the default is 13.

That was a safety feature added in 12.15 ... it is common in Windows for programs to change the default search - sometimes without even asking permission. So they changed it so that only one of the built-in searches can be set as default. You may still be able to choose no default at all, but you can't choose an added search engine as default nor remove a built-in search engine.
