Opera 12 Vs. Opera Next Functionality

Oh we will move on, don't doubt that Christoph...
I personally think that lame-ass browser doesn't even need any bashing since it says it all for itself for everyone who has their own opinion in conjunction with a bit of grey matter in their heads,
just as this spammer-magnet excuse for a forum doesn't deserve any time to have spent on.You're entitled to your opinion but that's all it is: an uninformed, biased opinion. Given the fact that even the forum doesn't suit you, why not just leave?

Thanks for your comments.
I was really going to try Opera 22, but I can't change the search engines, I don't use Google anymore and Bing and Yahoo are just poor. I use DuckDuckGo and/or StartPage by Ixquick, if I can't get those as my default search engines this browser in not for me yet.

Herudae,
You can!
Download the Disconnect Search extension, now in the Opera extensions store.. DuckDuckGo is one of its five search engines. Select it, and you are good to go. You can choose to have Disconnect do the search from the main Opera search bar, and/or any website search bars -- such as Duck Duck Go. Once you select DuckDuckgo, it will do all of your searches, until you change to another engine. What happens with Disconnect though is that to make it even safer and more concealed, the Duck Duck Go searches run through the Disconnect site. None of your search queries can be traced to you.
Here's an article about Disconnect Search.
They have apparently since the article added DuckDuckGo as one of their five search engines.
Cheers,

Herudae, you can change in the settings. You add Duckduckgo and choose it as the standard.

@sidneyleto,
He wants DuckDuckGo as a default. He can add DuckDuckGo to Opera if he chooses by going to the DuckDuckGo website, and right clicking on the seach bar there, but it will not become one of the Opera default search engines. There are only five permissible default Search engines in opera. even if it is not one of the five Opera default search engines, he can use DuckDuckGo from the main Opera address bar by typing "d" before his search query. It's not a big deal to just type one letter, i.e.,d before the query. If he's willing to do that on every search (type that one letter) then he doesn't need the Disconnect Search extension.
Bt if he doesn't want to do that, he can go the Disconnect Search route, which makes use of any of the search engines safer (google, bing, etc.). All you have to do is to select the search you want to use in Disconnect Search, and it becomes the de facto default till you change the selection. So you would not have to type the d.
In any event, it is extremely easy for Herudae to use DuckDuckGo in Opera, whether through, adding the duckDuckGo search to Opera, and typing one letter, d, before every search, or getting The Disconnect Search extension.

Opera Next aka Chropera do have functionality???
Sorta. I think the worst of complaints could be quenched by just doing a few things differently. Like importing bookmarks to a speed dial folder called bookmarks, and adding a memo "please organize it".
Then again: The way tabbing works might be lost forever. -

I notice when I type responses on this forum, the font is really small as I am writing my comment. Is there any way to change the font and/or font size as in Opera 12?
I notice when I reply in a different PHPBB forum, the font is much larger in the compose box. Any comments?

Are you typing from desktop, a laptop, a tablet?. When I type from my Ipad, with Coast, the font-print is fine, but with Puffin it'svery small. So it may vary browser to browser. If you are using desktop Opera, just enlarge the view (press 0) if you have advanced shortcuts set up, or I think it's control shift plus.

I am typing from a 12.5" laptop (1366 x 768 resolution), so yes, I am using Desktop Opera.

That doesn't make sense to me. There must be some explanation for why we are getting different result.
Now I'm using Windows 7. Maybe there's a difference based for making default search engines in Opera, linked to one's Operating System. @Sidneyneto, what Operating system are you using?
When I right click on the Windows address bar, I have 5 possible default search engines -- Google, Bing, Yahoo, Amazon, and Wikipedia. They are under a heading in my Settings "Default Search Engines." Any one of those five -- if I highlight them -- I receive an option to make default. My other search engines that I have added to Opera like Duck Duck Go, Dogpile, etc. are listed as "Other Search engines." If I highlight them, I CANNOT make them a default. I never receive that option. But there are letter(s) next to them. That means, if I want to search with DuckDuckGo, I type the letter "d" (which is next to DuckDuckGo, and my search query in the Opera address bar. With Dogpile, it's d-o and the search query. It's not hard to type the letter and the search. It's really simple. But with a default search engine, when you make it a default, you don't have to do that.
Now all I was saying to the original poster was that with Disconnect Search, you can make DuckDuckGo essentially a default, since it is one of the five search engines, they use.

I'm using Win 8.1 and I only have 5 possible default search engines too. Perhaps sidneyneto could describe how he makes any other search engine other than those 5 a default search as I can't work out how.

What search bar? There is only the omnibar. In settings I can't choose any but the original 5 as a default. Win 7

Okay, so the answer is you can use DuckDuckGo as a default search engine, and search from the Opera address bar, but you need to download the Opera extension, Disconnect Search, and set it up as a default in that extension. it's very easy to do.
In the alternative, it's very easy to do all your searches with DuckDuckGo as your search engine by adding it to Opera, and then beginning each search in the address bar with one letter a "d"
There is also, by the way, (because there are many ways to skin a cat) ;)))) a DuckDuckGo extension. I can't remember if it's in the Opera store or Chrome, and that will set up a separate DuckDuckGo search bar. I believe you may have to click though on an icon to open up the bar for use. If you're interested in that route, you need to explore the Opera and Chrome extension store sites.

Regarding the last approach, you might want to take a look at this Duck Duck Go extension.

Hello, I have the DuckDuckGo extension it just add a button aside the omnibox and add the DDG to search engines, but when I type d (shortcut for DDG) it shows me the duck icon and the string to search for but when hitting Enter it does NOTHING, so shortcut does not work for DDG in the omnibox, it does not work even if I select manually with a click DDG, I've also installed Diconnect Addon but it does just the same, it just add a button to my browser but it has no effect in omnibox default search engines.
So I think Opera is dead until I can add my own bloody search engine, my security is my responsibility I don't need a company with babysitter complex to decide what search engines I can use, Opera looks nice but functionality is what I need.

LOL... back in the "day" when AltaVista was the major search engine, you just bookmarked it and when you wanted to search, voila. Bookmark DuckDuckGo by placing it on your QAB or your Speed Dial. Is it really sooo very inconvenient or hard to do? Opera is not dead by a country mile but there will always be certain ones who demand it perform exactly as they wish OR they storm off to find something else. (sigh)
