Error message when trying to open any file

  • Since my Opera was updated a few days ago I see a weird behavior:

    I have Opera already running and give on the commandline:
    opera <anyfile>
    and get

    [0202/] Failed to call method: org.freedesktop.UPower.GetDisplayDevice: object_path= /org/freedesktop/UPower: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method "GetDisplayDevice" with signature "" on interface "org.freedesktop.UPower" doesn't exist

    Version: 42.0.2393.351 - Opera is up to date
    Update stream: Stable
    System: Ubuntu precise (12.04.5 LTS) (x86; GNOME)

    The file to be opened is then displayed o.k. in the browser.

    Any ideas?


  • So your old version of Ubuntu doesn't support that. It's not unusual to see messages like that when you open Opera from a terminal as not all versions of Linux support the same features. As long as Opera actually works as expected you can pretty much ignore messages in the terminal.
