Opera has changed....and not for the better.....

I have been using Opera since it came out. I am very disappointed because Opera has changed to the chromium based platform meaning it is the same as Google Chrome now. I hate Google Chrome! I think Google are traitors to us the people. Now I guess I will never use Opera again because of this. I hate Opera 20 and Opera Next! Back to Firefox I go....
Why did Opera stop making the good browser like 12.16? That was my favorite browser.

What? This is a legitimate thread! What is the problem? You don't want the folks on here to know the truth?

And what is the truth? You've told us you will never use Opera again... that you hate the new browser and will be returning to Firefox. Big deal. Go back to Firefox and be happy. The thread has no value whatsoever and should be closed. There is no truth as you term it and all you've done is expressed your own OPINION with which I happen to disagree.

I want to know why Opera sold out to the chromium platform and gave up on it own technology (i.e. 12.16)? That is a legitimate question. Opera 12.16 was the best browser there ever was and to just quit at it makes no sense....
leushino go back to your hole....

leushino is a fanboy who spends all day, every day, telling mods to close threads because they're voicing opinions that he doesn't like. Ironic, as he used to be a Firefox user who said he hated the Opera forums because of a handful of fanboys on here who jumped on every criticism of the browser - now he's become one of those people. Just ignore him.
The new Opera is rubbish. Anyone that was a big fan of the old one for its features and customisability knows that. We're told to just keep waiting for them to add back basic features, except the version number keeps going up but these features just aren't appearing.

Funksoulbro... you're a rather pathetic individual who appears to enjoy stalking me. So you went to the extreme of going back eight years to see what I had posted then... LOL... big deal. People do change over an eight year stance although in your case, you were probably a stalker even back then. Here's the real thing, Funkie. The new Opera is NOT rubbish... it's an awesome reworking of the Opera browser. Now if you don't like it... tough luck. I'm not telling you to wait for anything. Knowing you, you'll just look for opportunities to attack me or anyone else who has the audacity to disagree with your skewed view of reality. Here's a thought: why not take a long walk off a short pier?

Actually it is NOT a legitimate thread for a number of reasons. First off, you haven't asked for help so it's apparent you don't want any. Most "legitimate" threads are about users seeking help with the browser. Furthermore, you haven't made any suggestions for features you would like to see added (indeed, that should be done in the "Suggestion Box") but instead simply voiced an opinion and stated you will never use Opera again. There's nothing legitimate about the thread whatsoever and all you're seeking to do is fan flames and start yet another useless flame war.

All I want to know is why the big change from a great browser to a lame browser? That my friend is a legitimate question that you or anyone else has not answered!
So yes I'm looking for help but obviously you don't have the answers!
Moderators? Or anyone with answers....

The official story is that the old Presto code was too complex and convoluted to maintain properly, and that the site rendering problems were becoming too difficult to keep up with.
Whether that story is accurate, or just an excuse to switch engines, is anyones guess. Personally, I rarely have problems with sites in Opera 12.16 x64. Occasionally, yes, but as a long time Opera user, I'm used to the odd site-specific problem.
And just ignore leushino, he's not worth it.

sidneyneto and leushino , you are both wrong. If you look at my first post you will see that I stated that I have been using Opera since it started and that as of now I went to Firefox because Opera is lame now.
Both of you need to go back to your holes.

sidneyneto , you must be really ignorant. Can I get someone that knows what they are talking about to help answer my questions?

jito463 answered your question. I complete his answer with: according to Opera's devs Presto was made to compete with Netscape but they do not need that anymore.

Moderator, please consider closing this thread. Thanks.
Yes mods, please, only allow comments and opinions from leushino and his cronies because they have no issues with Opera and so other who do really don't know what they are on about! We can only have nice, supportive comments on here so we don't upset the developers or the Company.

What exactly do you need to know? Opera Presto was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. The company decided to make a new browser based upon the Chromium engine. That meant that many features would have to be dropped... some for good and some temporarily. The current stable browser (20) is a great deal more capable than v.15 which was released last July. It takes time to do this coding and Opera is a relatively small company. From what Haavard told us, the decision was primarily made by the developers rather than strictly a business-motivated one. And that is really the long and short of it.

And THIS is exactly WHY this thread should have been closed from the get-go. People like you sit in the bushes and wait to take your cheap pot shots which add NOTHING to the discussion.
