  • I have a Mac Book for work on which I imported my bookmarks and other setting including passwords. During the setup, it was actually one of the options to select.

Now that I am attempting to do the same on my Mac Mini at home, I cannot seem to find any option to bring over my passwords from Chrome. I can only choose Bookmarks and a couple of others, but nothing about passwords. If I have to manually move those over one-by-one into Opera then I would just give up and stick with Chrome. I really like the Opera browser with it's new features, but this totally sucks!

Does anyone know what the hell is going on here?

  • Update: User error, apparently. The import on my Mac at work was from Firefox, not Chrome. Oddly, only Firefox has the option to import passwords into Opera.

  • It's because of the storage used: Chrome, like Opera and Safari, uses macOS's Keychain to save passwords. It's a really great system facility and offers nice security. Unfortunately it also means Opera can't read Safari or Chrome's passwords 🙂
