I used to be a Google Chrome user, but since chrome changed their browser to prevent the backspace button from being used to navigate back to the previous page, I decided to swap to opera which does allow this - so I swapped to opera, configured the backspace for the navigate back button and all was fine for a couple of months. However, since the last update, whenever I type a url in the location bar and press the back button to correct it, this activates the keyboard shortcut to go to the previous page which makes it very difficult to use. This did not happen prior to version 40 release. please fix or tell me how I can prevent keyboard shortcuts from activating when typing in a url.

I have the same problem: can't use backspace in address bar sometimes. Sometimes it's OK, sometimes pressing backspace works like backspace in text input removing characters, and in the same time page is navigated back to previous page.

This is supposedly fixed in the update that was released a few days ago. What version of Opera are you using?

I hated this change and used an extension that fixes it. However, while editing a pdf form with the built-in pdf viewer and using backspace, it did a history back and I lost everything I entered. It was the first time I had an issue with using backspace. I then quit using the extension and started using the key on my laptop that is for back. It's right next to the up arrow key on my thinkpad. I actually like this better than the backspace and it wasn't hard at all to get used to.
