"Show in Folder" link fails for downloads

When the folder icon is clicked, there is a brief flash on the screen, it is as if a Pop-Up page was blocked, rather than opening the actual file location. Is there some way I can correct this?

You use Nemo as file manager, or have some other installed?

It is Nemo. This problem is experienced with three different browsers, Firefox, Chromium and Opera. I was able to correct it in Firefox. Firefox has an option that allows changing the actions of a variety of downloaded file types. I haven't found any similar functionality in Opera or Chromium.

I don't use Cinnamon as I prefer KDE, but I'll presume they are looking for Nautilus or perhaps the XFDE file browser (whatever that is). Either you need to set an environment variable to specify the file browser, or you need to make a symlink between the browser it is looking for and the one you have. I'm on my tablet right now but when I get back on my computer I'll see what environment variables my system has.

Hmm, nothing in the environment variables. Then I'd say just create a symlink so that if it tries to open nautilus it'll open nemo instead.

I created this problem when using one of the three browsers, I think it was Firefox. I had downloaded a video file, the downloaded file was shown at the bottom left of the browser screen. When I right clicked the file I was presented with what options I wanted to have happen, I chose to have VLC open this type of file. I thought the action would be exclusive to a FLV file, however VLC now executes on any file file downloaded through the browser.

This isn't a Firefox forum, but you ought to be able to fix Firefox under Tools > Options > Applications.

I'm posting in this forum because the problem exists within Opera, all I said was that it had existing in Firefox and I was able to correct it in Firefox but I cannot correct it in OPERA!

If you run Opera from a terminal, any error messages? Specifically when you try to open a folder, that is - some messages during startup is normal.
