I always thought that Opera Mini was still using the older (and left behind by time) Presto engine compared to Opera for Android which offered more site compatibility but worse compression than mini (mini's extreme setting is the only one that can show me web content in places where the signal is so weak that any other browser including Opera for Android fail miserably and that's where I am using Mini exclusively -and thought the older engine was responsible for it- ), but now I find out that it's using WebKit/Chromium and even a more advanced version 51.0.2704.81 vs. 50.0.2661.94 of Opera for Android. What's up with that, you confuse me totally as a user. Please enlighten

I didn't find any separated search bar after installing Opera Mini 18 So, I try to reinstall but there has no search bar. The address bar seems alike Opera Mini 17 & then I try to reinstall it again & now the separated bar comes. I really don't know what's going on? By the way, I'm using Opera since its 17 version & it's pretty but as a UC Browser's user I've to say that, if Opera guys do more & more improvements, specially in downloading section I'll become a hardcore fan of Opera Mini. Thumbs up, for this new release.

hi team and community.
Opera Mini 18 Version: 18.0.2254.106200 (181106200)arm sideloaded twice from apkmirror and via downloadapk on google-free android 4.4
Running flawless, no hick-ups w/video playback using Tubemate 2.2.9
one last question: is there any data forwarding of any kind to google or others outside opera?
please explain in all details the amount of user data identification, retention and forwarding.
Methinks, you owe this to your users, especially with the prospect of user data moving from norway/scandi jurisdiction to china.
please don't take this comment as an offence,
me,
opera user since 2006 or so,
some linux machines still on 12.xx. -

New search bar is available in beta, it needs a bit more love before we bring it to final.
What you saw after reinstall is our a/b test running. You might consider sending a lottery ticket, as chances to get picked into the a/b test group are rather low

Regarding my... confusion I found out that in the... "other mode" (previously "high") opera mini is using the much refined WebView of today, and not Presto as i thought until now, so it's all clear now

hi,
I'm an opera user since v7.6.
I just updated from v17 to v18. Could opera pls, provide an option to install an (entire) new version, instead of only an update in Google Play.
- every time I update I run the risk of not really liking some new features of new version - then I can't update or rather backdate to the old version.
Thks.

You can pay attention to our beta channel, it will install as a separate app, and you will have about 6 weeks to check out new features and decide if you like them or not.

I think the file downloading is the one & only the worst part of Opera Mini. It would be great if it was as fast as UC Browser. I've to use Opera Mini for web browsing & UC Browser to file downloading. Using two browser for different purpose is little bit annoying. And please, do not remove Opera Mini's separated search bar in the omnibar in the next release of Opera Mini.

hi,
thank you for the new opera. thank you for bringing back the alphabetically order to saved pages (helps a bit).
after a few days' usage, here's my comments on new opera:
-
I always feel something different when I upgraded from v7.6 to v16 some time ago. The previous day, I opened up v7.6 in old phone after reading some comments of v7 in v18 beta thread. The (old) feel is direct, uncluttered, though dials squares are a bit too big..in short, I request that the developing team tried closing the white gaps between dial squares..round off the sharp corners of squares...no wordings (descriptive) for each squares..for a start.
-
opera mini android is for smartphone where screen is small - fingers presses should be minimised..in setting menu where apps layout, theme, etc can be changed..many white spaces..need to scroll down to end options and eyeballs similarly move as well (easier to get strained)..maybe the menu titles can fitted into squares, rectangles, depending on title length, into one screen space without having to scroll down..with some cascading squares to save some spaces.
-
text size under page layout..in my case it makes no difference if I set it to small, medium or large.. or am I missing something else?
That's all for now. Thank you for reading.

There is a problem. If I try to write anything in a dialogue box & try to swipe forward my cursor Opera Mini takes the cursor to the start point of that writing post. (Such as: I tried to wrote something in twitter. after I tried to move the cursor it takes me to the start point) Such Annoying..
