What happened to Opera?

Hi
I don't know the reason I stopped using Opera years ago.
Recently I installed it, and was finding my way around a very different Opera from about v12Gone- the ability to save & edit notes
Then the HD on that W7 puter died, & here I am on W8.1
Opera seems lighter weight than FF & Chrome, so I set it as my default browser.
The worst part of the hard drive dying was losing most of my bookmarks.
This version of Opera makes it so difficult to simply save bookmarks.
No "export as html" which could easily be c&p to my modem memory card.
W8.1- I haven't had a chance to d/l & install a backup utility-
so I have a folder I c&p every day.No Opera bookmarks unless I hunt them in "C:\Users\poppyzone\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Bookmarks"
copy (and date it) before I c&p the important folder. After I post this, I shall d/l the lightweight browser I have been using for 4-5 years.
I prefer Opera, but I need to save bookmarks easily, without having to sign into anything.I occasionally use other browsers briefly.
I'd like to import my Opera bookmarks but it's near impossible. What were you thinking?
/end whine

That's a great shame.
I had such positive memories of old Opera.
I installed it on the now dead puter, because that note thing was so useful.(years ago, something I did every day wouldn't work in Opera- I fell in love with FF & downloadhelper extension, then, better connection & Turbo forgotten)
As it is, I can't use Opera because of the difficulty of saving bookmarks, without being logged in.
There are a couple minor things I don't like-
can't remember them offhand. -
