Not all people use this function in chrome, but there still need for this function. No browser has this function except the outdated google chrome v50. I understand that it will require a lot of work/changes to the code, but I believe this feature will attract more people to use opera for Android. Maybe you can add this feature in opera mini or news&search to test how many people really need it.

What exactly is this function? And how it would be useful for the users?

BTW, if you are talking about Chrome apps, Opera doesn't support them.

It's a function that Google used to have on Chrome for Android (now deprecated) that made it a tab-switcher-less browser, with the function the tabs were displayed in the Android system app switcher (square nav button) alongside other apps instead.

It was useful if you consider it more practical to switch between both tabs and apps on a single list... Or more messy if you were not keen on mixing the two and keeping it organized/manageable (personal preference for different kinds of users - some people were leaving dozens of tabs drowning in the recent apps list without ever closing them, or you could drown apps if you're a power user of tabs hehe).

Ah, i remember this but didn't associate to the request.

To be honest, i didn't use to like it.

Many people loved this feature. Right now the Android Chrome forums are a complete shitstorm about this feature being removed. People are already looking for alternatives and of Opera can provide then I don't see why they wouldn't move here.

Well, i guess many people may have strange preferences. 🙂 I really don't get how people could prefer to use the app switcher to switch between tabs of a browser instead of the browser itself.

You can switch between tabs and apps instantly instead of having to tap the button to switch to the browser then tap the button to open the tab-switcher (then deal with the different UI/scroll) then tap the tab you want to access.

Overall blurry the lines between apps and web apps / browser, it could be the start of a web-based multiplatform OS in the users' eyes.

I know but i guess i still prefer to switch tabs inside the browser and use the app switcher to change between apps.

It's normal for different people have different preference. What really bother me is that google remove the function rather than leaving an option for user to decide enable it or not. Actually , i am ok for setting merge tab and apps as an hidden option so normal user will not accidentally enable it, while at the same time other user can choose to enable it.

What was written above is absolutely true. Tons of people out there, many power users, loved this feature. I personally am very unhappy about the direction chrome is taking, and I'm ready do go with competitor if they can fill that space. There are 2 options here: like chrome used to, make it possible to see tabs in app switcher or make it possible to open a link in a new window (like on desktop) and leave tabs as they are. The new window option seem like something that can be easier to do.

Can't stand tabs in their own custom switcher thing. Just drives me nuts. I can take no ad-block if I get to have my tab switching done right.

Please, come up with it, goolge does not care.
