Which settings are you using? Have you checked if you don't have to enable pop/imap on your outlook.com settings?

OK, but which settings you are using for pop (or imap) and smtp?

In Opera, on the "Servers" tab in the account's properties:

            • Incoming Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
            • Port: 993
            • TLS: Checked
            • username: username@outlook.com
            • password: your_password
            • Outgoing Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
            • Port: 587
            • TLS: Checked
            • username: username@outlook.com
            • password: your_password

Or, if you want to use POP:

            • Incoming Server: pop-mail.outlook.com
            • Port: 995
            • TLS: Checked
            • username: username@outlook.com
            • password: your_password

Ooh, okies....I had to make some minor corrections to make my settings match yours, burnout426 (thank you!!).....here's hoping it pulls email from the hotmail server. 🙂

Yeh, I forgot to mention that the username is your specific email address, which could be username@hotmail.com instead of username@live.com or username@outlook.com etc.

OK; I gave it a few days to see if it would "settle in" to pull emails from the Hotmail server. But still not getting anything.....

You can check the log to see if there are any errors or see if Opera stops when fetching a certain message.

Also, if you're using IMAP, close down Opera and edit incomingN.txt in the mail folder where N is the number for the account as seen in accounts.ini. In there, set Force Single Connection to 1. That might fix it.

It'd be in the "mail" folder *if* you're using IMAP. See "Menu -> Help -> About Opera" for the location.

In the "Mail" folder on the hard drive (using Windows Explorer)? Or within Opera Mail itself??

If I am setting up the POP3 style (/not/ IMAP), do I still need to go into that 'Mail' folder?

OK; for some reason, the POP3 method is not recognizing/accepting my password.....and the IMAP method authenticates but still does not pull email from my Hotmail inbox.....

                                  what am I doing wrong??

Is POP enabled at outlook.com? You're using port 995 with TLS checked? Are the time, date, time zone and daylight savings time settings for your system correct?

Or, better yet, use the exact same settings that worked in Thunderbird.

Also, download the Opera Mail installer, launch it, click "options", set "install path" to a folder on your desktop, set "install for" to "Standalone Installation" and install. In that Opera, set up the POP account fresh (do not import) and do not uncheck "leave messages on server".

If it works fine there, there's something wrong with the profile (probably the "mail" folder) for your normal Opera Mail.

For your normal Opera mail, in the "mail" folder is a "pop3" folder. In it is a numbered uidl file for each account. See accounts.ini for what number the account is. Anyway, you can delete the file for the account to have Opera Mail refetch all messages in the Inbox. Something you can try if you want.

and how do I check if POP3 is enabled at Outlook.com? And would that affect my Hotmail.com inbox??

I have already ownloaded and installed the Opera Mail installer. That is what I have been working with all this time

Understood, but with those directions, you can installer another Opera Mail to test with without interfering with your normal Opera Mail. That way, you can rule out corruption of the mail folder.

and how do I check if POP3 is enabled at Outlook.com?

At outlook.com, click the gear at the top right of the page, goto "options" and then click on "Connect devices and apps with POP". There you can enable POP if it isn't enabled.

And would that affect my Hotmail.com inbox?

It should as going to outlook.com and hotmail.com both redirect to the live.com mail servers (just like mail.live.com does).

Instead of pop-mail.outlook.com for the pop server though, you can try pop3.live.com if you want. But, they might use the same mail server now.

I also tested Opera Mail with my @hotmail.com account with pop-mail.outlook.com (on port 995 with TLS checked) and it works fine and fetches messages from the inbox.
